Maytag Refrigerator Popping Noise
Hi All,
I am hoping I can get some pointers on a loud humming my Maytag is making. It started about two weeks ago, when the freezer was left open over night and everything defrosted (it's a bottom freezer). I noticed the fridge started to make a loud humming sound. I didn't think much of it, but it started to get on my nervous because I didn't remember the fridge being that loud. I started to try and trouble shoot the potential issue, but I haven't had much luck. I checked the compressor and the only thing I noticed is it is hot to the touch. Not sure if that is normal. The fan next to the compressor is working fine.
When behind the fridge, I can tell the humming is coming from the bottom of the fridge, but more a quarter of the way up from the bottom. This leads me to believe it might be the evaporator fan. But I am not sure what is wrong with it and I am not sure how to gain access to the fan. I don't see away to remove the back of the fridge. I did notice some screws holding a plate in the back of the freezer and contemplated removing that. When I pushed the plate I can hear a cracking sound. I've read online that I might be experiencing ice build up and the fan is rubbing against it.
Any suggestions of my next course of action or how to access the evaporator fan?
Its worth noting, besides the loud humming, the fridge is working fine.
Thanks in advance
Brian
